Hi everyone, my name is Paddy and I came to barrow Farm in 2001. I was born in 1994 and have lived in Essex for most of my life. I am one of the bigger horses on the yard, standing a15.2.hh. I am also one of the most handsome. I have lots of fans here, keeping my ego suitable "puffed up" by telling me constantly how great I am. I get lots of hugs and pats so it’s no wonder I like all these people, especially those bearing treats, polo’s, carrots, apples, I love ‘em all.
I am very talented and turn my hoof to most things; I’m what they call a "ride and drive" although I haven’t done much driving lately, been too busy with my RDA rides. Perhaps I’ll give it another go sometime.
I am hoist trained and will stand patiently at the ramp my rider is lowered down onto my saddle. The wonders of modern life!
I take my riders for walks in the wood in the summer and unlike some I could mention I never forget my manners and use this as an opportunity to eat the leaves.
Off lead work is what I am best at, helping my riders gain independence by riding by themselves. Steering through things, round and over things, you name it and I’ll have a go.
I have taken riders to the regional and national RDA competitions and there are lots of red rosettes with my name on. I have really done Barrow farm proud, winning the tack and turnout trophy on several occasions.
Away from my day job I have also competed at dressage, x country, show jumping and showing. I have more rosettes than I can count, counting being one of the few things I’m not good at! I don’t compete any more as I have had a few problems with my hind legs, but I still get variety in my life with lots of hacking. We are lucky to have some farm rides, open countryside, the wind in your mane, its not a bad life. When I’m not working I get plenty of "me time" in the field with my mates Starra and Fergus, I like to keep them in order, don’t let them forget whose boss.
