Jet

Please sponsor me, I want some luxury in my old age.

Hello everyone, thanks for logging in to my page where you can find out all about me. I am a Dales pony and was born in 1982 at The Raygil Stud in County Durham,. Before Blue Peter viewers chose Jet as my name I was known as Raygil John.

I was bought by the 1987 Blue Peter Christmas Appeal and then spent 14 months learning how to be an R.D.A. pony. Once fully trained I came to work at Barrow Farm and have been here ever since. I have been on the television lots of times, have you seen me? I have taught many a Blue Peter presenter a bit of “horse sense”. You may all think being a TV star is glamorous but believe me, it can be boring. I had to develop special skills, like still looking interested in the job when you’ve done it several times with a camera in your face from every angle. But I am pleased to tell you that I was equal to the task and was always complemented on both my looks and my behavior. An all round superstar, that’s me.

I am the oldest, most experience Barrow Farm pony. Versatility is my second name, over the years I have turned my hooves to dressage, jumping, cross country, showing ect, ect. But I really found my forte when Anne decided it would be fun, and a challenge for us to learn to carriage drive. Well it was certainly a challenge for her but I took to it like a duck to water and helped her learn too. My party piece is my trot, Dales are well known for their high knee action and I really like to show off. Once I’m in top gear no one can keep up. (unless they cheat and canter)

Another thing I have excelled at is R.D.A. competition, I really helped put Barrow farm on the map, at both regional and national finals. I’ve won Dressage, Tack and Turnout, Working Pony and Rider and the mounting competition, some of them several times. I have heard whispers that they may retire me from national competition, I can’t say I’ll miss the journey to Hartpury, if I ever meet the person who designed the dreaded M25 I just might forget my manners.

Life hasn’t been without its problems, a few years ago I started to itch, rubbing my beautiful mane and tail. I had developed an allergy to those pesky cullicodes midges. Every day was a bad hair day. After a couple of years trying every lotion and oil in the shops, the boss splashed out and bought me what I can only describe as a very peculiar rug. Probably the most unflattering garment of the horse world, its known as a Boett. Just putting it on is an initiative test, gives me endless entertainment watching new volunteers struggle. But to be serious, it does the job, midges kept away, no more itching, mane and tail back to their best. We superstars have to be prepared to look ridiculous sometimes in order to keep our looks.
