About Barrow Farm

Welcome from the Barrow Farm team - what a great bunch!

Our purpose built riding centre, (located between Chelmsford and Brentwood in Essex) is designed to make riding accessible for people who for whatever reason cannot be catered for at another riding school.

We have over 100 children and adult riders and drivers who come to us each week and we have been providing riding since 1976 when Anne Mitchell, our Chief Riding Instructor, and her family started Barrow Farm.

Barrow Farm is a member of Riding for the Disabled Association National and the British Horse Society (BHS) and our instructors are BHS qualified and undertake further specialist training to teach the riders at Barrow Farm.

Why Riding?

Riding means many things to many people and our riders are no different. For our riders riding at Barrow Farm can provide physiotherapy and exercise, a chance to learn, the opportunity to make new friends, build self esteem and confidence and all this while having FUN.

To make what we do possible we have a small team of well trained and dedicated staff, a large team of committed and hardworking volunteers and a wonderful team of specially selected and trained ponies and great facilities, all this provided through the generous help of our supporters. We also have a trustee committee which oversees the management of the charity. You can learn more about what we do and our team by visiting the other pages on our website. We hope you enjoy looking round.
